Army Vehicle Tyre Test

Construction equipment has been using this concept for years. Airboss tires and solid tires with holes through side to provide cushioning. About time they migrate to the military.

In the sixties Bendix already experimented with this design for a lunar roving vehicle proposal. They made a test vehicle, but in the end, NASA chose the Boeing design. This one had woven mesh wheels made from stiff piano strings with metal profiles on it.
The Bendix test vehicle now is in the Smithsonian collection. So no, the idea is not new. But it is quite a good one. |

When this tire comes into wide use, we, paper modelrs, will be taking a lot of work to build it......
