Nah...if JJ doesn't do good on SW7, the next director chosen will hopefully say I can do better on SW8.

I saw an extended preview at the iMax the other night - maybe fifteen minutes. It looked great, dropping Spock into a volcano and other wonderful CGI stuff. UNTIL the preview cut to the bridge with Scotty and the bridge boyos. It looked like a Saturday Night Live skit from the Piscopo years. Awful, dreadful - amateur night. No, I won't go - the great effect work isn't worth the agony of watching that cast.

That certainly gets the imagination spinning in directions it probably shouldn't go.

I'd pay to go, too

Of course, the original pitch was "Wagon Train goes to the stars".

Being a life long science fiction reader (even if I don't do much lately) I've seen very few good science fiction movies. Some that were pretty decent movies but the science fiction part was weak; and even fewer that were pretty good science fiction but not real good movies.

I think I first heard that Childhood's End (my favorite Clarke book and in my overall top 25) was optioned in about 1970. There's the technology to do it properly now, but don't know if there is the soul.

It would make the movie much better, close the old, and bring in the new...start a whole new era. JJ can do it...as long as anyone doesn't tie his hands...unfortunately for him, he is working for Disney.
