Have you seen the price of paint?

Sticker shock. I live in USA and last weekend I bought four of the little bottles of Testor paints. Last time I bought these little jewels was about 15 years ago, back when I built my last p-----c model. My, how the times have changed. I remember paying about 35 cents each. Didn't expect that now, but also didn't expect two bucks each! A set of nine bottles and a paintbrush is $15.99!!
My wife thought that was a good price. I guess I'm either a cheapskate, or I'm getting old. Maybe both...

This is why I've gone to using Ceramcote acrylic paints from the ceramics section of the craft stores. I have been able to match just about any color with those paints, and they typically cost less than a dollar for a four-ounce bottle. They adhere to plastics as well as any other acrylic paint, and even come in metallics.

This thread once again demonstrates the advantage of printing paper models.

Smile Just enjoy the hobby

Guys, It is not the advantages of one form of building material or another. We are not going for the trophy of the most economical hobby.

It is all for the fun, enjoyment, relaxation and feedback we are getting.

So if you like building plastic, do it! If you like paper, Do it.

Plastic will not put you in the poor house.

Have fun.

Actually, many paper modelers use these paints, too. See current POTW.

One of the reasons I changed to (and will stay with paper largely) is the ridiculous cost of paints. Here a bottle of Tamiya or Testors costs around $10.00! Imported blah blah. Plus the ridiculous costs of kits - go cost the Tamiya Swordfish as an example.

That's why the plastic kits I make are mostly 1/72 armour - can get away with a few colours - and are either bought from the Eastern bloc manufacturers (who are making reasonable kits of some very unique subjects ) or are scratch built.

Actually, I bought the paints for a paper model. I'm currently building an Ecardmodel of the SS Ivernia. Usually use colored pencils or markers, but got paint for this one, as this ship is special to me.
