Aeroflot and Bulgaria Promotional Models 70's and 80's.
In the late 70's and early 80's I had occasion to fly on Aeroflot and Balkan Air (I think it was called then).
They both had in-flight magazines and these had superb paper models in them of their early aircraft. The latter were printed on card. Does anyone remember these? More importantly, does anyone have any still?

I do not know how many they did. I flew a few times over a year and collected 5 different ones. I then asked the airline offices for more and they scratched up 3 or 4 more.
I was in Central Africa at the time with nothing to do so I made them all. They were very good too with good detail. I had never heard of any of the aircraft - not surprisingly since they were all Russian/Eastern European. The aircraft were from the 20's to the 40's - small biplanes and monos used by the early airlines. At the time I had the impression that the Bulgarian Airline (would this have been Bulkan Air?) was actually really also Aeroflot. Their planes were Aeroflot inside (labeling, notices etc) although outside they were in the Bulgarian colours. Some of the aircrew were Russian. So perhaps these were all Aeroflot promotional items in origin - though I clearly remember that there were models in Bulgarian Airline colours etc!

knowing my experiences flying AEROFLOP their models would have been more airworthy than their aircraft

True! On one flight they gave a towel because the aircraft was condensing all over me.
But their pilots were very good. And the aircraft solid.

Kevin w.s.
You keep mentioning the S.D.40 . Are you referring to the train engine ? If so wouldn't that make the S.D.40 -2 about 34 ?

My favourite engine! Yes, the loco.
The SD 40-2 date's I think from 1972 (first production date), which would make it 43. Jeepers - everything is getting old!
