Welcome to the South

Just woke up this morning to a Winter Wonderland. Friday was supposed to be the big ice storm with a minor event last night. Guess what. Some one got it wrong.

Quite a few trees down, luckily nothing on the house.

Also had a few visitors this morning. Bucks are a very rare sighting. Had 3 around the house this morning.

Hopefully you will keep the electricity running. Those don't look like urban deer.

Beautiful photographs. Some regal looking buck. In that one shot it looks like a 10 pointer, although the antlers blend in with the branches behind so it makes it hard to tell. I have friends in Bulls Gap, Tn. Will have to call to see how they made out.

Hi Vermin_King and Don,

Lucky for us the power was only out for a very short time. Those deer are white tails. They are around the house all year long. Have only seen bucks 3 times in 6 years.

Supposed to get some more sleet/freezing rain tonight. Great way to start this winter season. Understand the East Coast is not having much fun.

Fred

All this nastiness is sliding past to the south of us. I feel very fortunate.

On the other hand, these zero to twenty degree temperature ranges are getting old fast.

Good luck with this next batch of weather.

Same storm slipping just north and west of us (central NC). We have had the same misty rain that would have given us the same ice coating if was just a few degrees colder. Deer are a beautiful sight but as both my wife have hit one, I am glad to see them in the woods and not on the road. So many deer around here now they allow bow hunting in the city limits. Anyway: a deer on the side of the road = one wrecked car.

And now they are bringing back elk in Missouri. My folks just had a deer broadside their car two weeks ago. An elk would have caused considerably more damage.

I'm not saying we shouldn't re-establish species, but we should remember that there will be a cost

South? Technically yes, but not so far south to avoid Winter weather. We barely missed a mess in Houston.
