I have a small spot light and my cutting and gluing boards on top of a four drawer file cabinet. I can work standing up with forearms and elbow resting on the work surface. I also have an old watchmakers bench which puts work just below eye level when sitting down.

This is a good way to do work. If you look at jewelers and their arrangements the idea is to get you work high as practical to avoid bend and associated back-ache.An adjustable chair where you can lower the height is a good investment.

It is indeed, because I constantly drop pieces on the floor.

My work surface is 35 inches from the floor. I'm six feet tall and nearsighted, so I often work without my specs or with a pair of computer glasses and clip-on magnifiers, and it's much better for my back to be close to the work.

Though sometimes I take a model to a coffee shop and work on whatever table is available. If I did that every day, I'm sure I'd start to have back and neck problems.
