I have seen this myself when I was working on a project at Edwards AFB.

Thanks for the link Gil. Noticed that the photo is an Xplane 3 model. Interesting they would use that to show what it might look like.

I thought the same things a few weeks back when I spotted a trail with the donuts on a rope effect.
It was a commercial airliner.
