I was reading about it on Yahoo news. They say it just a way to get tourism to pick up, and that there isn't anyway they could come up with enough money to build the real deal. However I do believe they have a star trek statue with the Enterprise on top.

Seems it would be cheaper to buy the real USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and dig an 800 mile long canal to float it in from the Pacific ocean.
