Menger Sponge

AB-Tech, where I teach a class on Operating Systems wants your old, unwanted business cards. They plan to build a level 3 Menger sponge for Pi day 2015. They will need about 48,000 cards to make this happen.

Details for the construction can be found here: Mega Menger | Distributed Fractal Build 2014, and this is the email for the project coordinator: Home | Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College

If you have cards o donate contact Cindy for a mailing address.

Curt

Due to the number of cards and build hours needed, a level 3 sponge is the largest practical model that can be built at a single site.

One person can easily assemble the 20 pieces out of 60 cards to make a level one model. So 20 people working as a team can build a level two model. And 20 groups of 20,... that's 400 people, can build the level three model. The finished project will be about 4.5 feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds.

There is of course a global effort sponsored by the Queen Mary University of London to gather 20 level three menger sponges together to assemble a level 4 Menger sponge.

It looks like an interesting concept and project!
It would make for a GREAT way to get into the Guinness Book of Worlds Records.

Hmmm reminds me of the Borg. Not just due to the fact it is a cube but also that there are a lot of smaller items making up one structure.

Who me? I am 1 of 30,000 said the cube.

Woah!

Indeed that will be huge!

You'll also need to ensure that the businesscards are of the same or close enough dimensions.

It is the not so well known Swiss branch of the Borg Collective
