Skype....is this a thing now?
Just curious.
I noticed recently, a few members adding the Skype contact info in their profile info. Just wondering who uses it regularly? Who is thinking of using it? Would this be something worthy of more attention? I was contemplating adding a skype contact to my card model site for anyone who needs help or advice about models. (FYI...I am not doing this. Because I don't want the Skype spam. But I could still share skype with fellow modelers.) I am new to Skype really. I had it installed a few years back but never used it. I just reinstalled it...but, I have a really crappy webcam. And I look like fuzzy bunnies in the mornings...mid-day...and at night too. So, I am not cam-friendly. Just curious what the concensus is on skype calling.

I have Skype but I never really use it. I don't think it's any better than emails. you have to put a shirt on just to talk to someone? If you want to give your Skype to a few people that can be an alternative to email if for whatever reason they don't have an email, but most likely your best bet IMO is to not really worry about skype.

Skype replaced MSN messenger so a lot of people use it for just general purpose chatting, whether text or voice.
I was using the Skype Android app for long-distance phone calls for a while but gave up due to intermittent connection problems and low quality sound; I ended up just buying an international calling package with my regular cellphone. The PC version is much more stable and I use(d) it regularly, mostly for group conversations with friends. We even use it at work for teleconferences sometimes.

I talk with my girlfriend in Romania just about every morning on Skype. I thought about opening it up so anybody could talk to me, but the spambots killed that after a day. If anybody wants to get added, they gotta make sure to mention papermodels, or it gets flagged as spam right away.

One of the advantages that it has is that you can make calls via internet and the sound is decently good, you can also make video-calls but quality depends on your camera and in your internet speed .
We have at least 3 month of officially installed it in my company and we have no complains whatsoever. |

I use Skype because my employer requires me to (management keeps tabs on us this way and periodically chats with me). I am a remote employee who works from home and travels regularly. My colleagues who do the same thing as me are also on Skype and we chat every day when not traveling and most days when on assignment.
It's a great way to transfer files, share screens to help each other troubleshoot customer issues, but I'm not chatty by nature and if it wasn't that I have to log in every day, I would probably not have it installed. There is a definite use for Skype and for those who need it, it serves the purpose. You don't have to use the webcam during chats; it is your option to use it when making, receiving calls. Just my observation and opinion. Best Regards,

I use it daily, think it's great. Some discussions and conversations are better made by voice instead of emails.

I think VoIP is great. What I hate is the fact that the people I have to correspond to at work on a daily basis have different preferences.
One likes to use Viber. Others like to use Skype. And yet others prefer Yahoo voice. I need to have all voip client apps installed on my workstation. |
