Edgar Mitchell of Apollo 14 dead at 85
Edgar Mitchell, Lunar Module Pilot on the Apollo 14 mission with Commander Alan Shepard, passed away after a sudden illness. He was 85.
Edgar was considered one of the 'stranger' astronauts due to his interest in supernatural phenomena and UFO's, among other such things. Somewhat to the chagrin of his fellow crewmates, he conducted ESP experiments during the return trip of Apollo 14 from the Moon, attempting to "transmit" images from cards to "ESPers" on the ground telepathically. The experiment failed.
