My mother is doing as well as can be expected. We are taking some burden off of her by chasing down all of the paperwork needed for a surviving widow of a retired veteran. Those DD-214 forms are important.

Doug, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I know the loss you feel, my Dad died 3 years ago this September and I lost my Mom in '86. You and your family are in my thoughts....Rich

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I lost my father more than 20 years ago and I still feel the loss. But I realize that he is still very much a part of me -- in a good way.

Grief is an unpredictable beast. It might hit you hardest in a week or two -- that's not uncommon. After that, it gradually gets easier to handle, though it might ambush you from time to time. Sharing your feelings and memories will help.
