Been seeing this more and more across all product manufacturers.. Put out a product that wasn't tested, built, or Q/A'd properly prior to release. They don't want to invest time or money to make a quality product and let the buyer do the testing and bug reporting before releasing an updated version. It's about the quick dollar not the long term dollar or being proud of a product.

I always test build my designs during the process. I build the uncolored pattern (drawn in AutoCAD). If there are fit problems or parts that I don't like how they go together, I make the necessary changes before continuing.
After that, I add in panel lines, details, and all other markings and rebuild to make sure the markings all line up with those in adjacent parts. If any adjustments are needed, they are resolved. Then I import the model into CorelDraw to add color and textures and make individual pages. I print the finished model as a PDF and build this one to check everything is still good. THEN I release to model. In this way I KNOW that there are no build problems and that it can actually be built. Years of designing has taught me this method. Best Regards,

Agreed Jadriancz.
There are a few that could learn by your example Ron! Thing is... you aren't selling your models ...and acquiring the revenue from the model as quickly as possible, is not your main focus. You are more interested in the model you are creating. And this is what seems to cloud the minds of some designers and gets in the way of producing a much better product.

I really like this model, especially because of the textures, they are amazing, but as already mentioned, the model can not be builded without adjustments.
Individual sections are gradually shrinking from the tip (which is very badly constructed) to the rear. I decided that the center of the hull (cockpit, engines and wings) has the right size and is in 1:16 scale. Richard Cherry is not interested in upgrading his model, but if I tell him which piece to enlarge / reduce by how much %, he is willing to do it ... In the meantime, I got a 3D model from the .pdo file and it is fairly proportionally correct. o_0 I've decided to make improvements to the model, but it's sure a long distance run. I want to improve the tip of the wings with a tilting mechanism make an improved cockpit and a catapult seat perhaps the steering rods with chains on directional rudders and cardan shafts in open mounting holes, etc. Save

Now, THAT, would be a REALLY interesting model. I would certainly be tempted to build one. It would be a great companion for the steampunk "Flying Fortress".

A pity, as it looked promising. The model looks great. But the kit itself is a huge piece of **** as it is. .

Rubenandres77, thx, but my 3D modeling skill is not so good, Sketchup have (for me) intuitive control (and a lot of good tutorial videos on youtube), but export 3D models to pepakure designer is sometimes (50/50) problem. Blender is better, but for me have too complicated control yet. I had a similar opinion in the past, but then I try make a few paper cut out models for others and it is not so simple. :-) But thx to him we have a opportunity to create a nice model. :P |
