Snow globe warning.

Just a quick safety message here. My wife was just tidying in my late daughter's bedroom. Suddenly she smelt smoke. Sunlight was passing through a snow globe and had focused the light onto some paper, igniting it ! Lucky for us my wife was in the room at the time !
Seeing as we build and display card / paper models, just be careful where you display them.

So you're just giving a warning of one of the unforeseen hazards of global warming.

Your comment would be funny, if not for the fact that we could have had a fire in our house !!

House fires are never funny.

Another close call was when I was little. I had a couple of cereal box prizes: a submarine and a scuba diver that would go up and down in water when you put baking soda in them. Mom had them in a glass bowl in the south kitchen window, and the grocery list on the table got somewhat scorched from the concentrated sunlight.

You just don't think about things like that

Firemen nearly axed a wall to find the source of smoke in our bathroom. Fortunately, they discovered a smoking spot where a shaving mirror was focusing a sunbeam onto the wood! Again, could have been a fire if no one was at home to call the firemen.

Even so, I find the "global warming" comment funny!

Good to hear that you found the cause quick enough.

I used to have this really clear snowglobe I bought from Cardiff. It smashed in my bag the day I got it. If I still had it, our whole apartment would've burnt down. The sun is really strong here in Korea, and the snowglobe wouldve ignited everything in the living room- Nearly everything is made out of wood!!!!!

If that really did happen, we can't stop the fire. The owner didn't even give us a fire extinguisher. :(

Thank you for the heads up. Never would have thought that could happen. Indeed, anything is possible.

Another warning and no joke...

We have a metal salad bowl, inside the bowl the surface was made very reflective. You see the problem and really we saw a little aera of salad went up to smoke on a sunny afternoon. The salad bowl acts like a parabol mirror.
