Thanks, John. I saw him (from a distance) at the Boeing plant in Wichita back in the '80s. I was working for Hughes Aircraft (Connecting Devices Division) at the time, and had an opportunity go to the Wichita plant for a conference. Why he was there, I don't know, but I thought I recognized him, and asked someone, who confirmed it was him. Of course, he was quite a bit older than in the subject picture.

This might not be in the same interesting vein of photos listed, but today I got the new June Squadron catalog, and on the cover is the Airfix 1:72 B-17 with ground support kit

maybe a good source for some extra addons

Reverse star and circle on hood of bomb truck is interesting.
And as far as the illustration itself, the lack of people in it is causing several different effects. That it looks odd. That it makes it easier to imagine people there and active. Is easier to imagine myself in that scene. That I wonder if Airfix has a figure set available separately. Whether others have figure sets. That such figures are not in the kit.

I just got the Squadron catalog yesterday and saw that. $60.00 isn't too bad for both kits. I probably paid close to thirty for the bomber re-supply set alone. I've been using it for reference for eventual card model versions.

If memory serves me right, the star on the hood of the bomb truck was actually applied with gas detecting paint and should be yellow in color.

Airfix does make a set of 1/72 USAAF personnel set. The molds are pretty old (1960s) and for some reason they are molded in soft plastic.

This was floating around the various groups over on Facebook, and I thought some might get a kick out of it, or maybe some inspiration.

A decent photoshop job, but lets not discuss the merits like some of the groups did today

That one and a Burt Rutan B-17 would look good next to each other.

One of the Ju-88 toured around was a defector from Romanian Air Force (recon version).I think this one still exists somewhere in museum.

There are few pictures of B-17 gunners with googles on and metal plate attached to them on what looks like spring loaded hinge-anyone knows what' that plate for?

Also notice that a lot of B-17 have white in insignia star darkened up (paint, grease?) much like Finns did with their blue swastikas later in the war.
