Back in the day I too met him at a car show. Seemed very friendly, but at that show they weren't letting anyone sit in the car. He signed a 1/18 batmobile I had as did George Barris, the designer of the car. I lost it a few years back to hurricane Sandy. Guess I'll never have that opportunity again.

There were actors before and after him, but to me Adam West was the one true Batman. Rest in peace Mr. West.

So, I don't know.
West said he turned it down because he wasn't English?

Producer Cubby Broccoli is American.
The first Bond, was on American TV, played by American Barry Nelson.
George Lazenby (Bond before Diamond are Forever, was Australian)
And Fleming's inspiration for Bond was American composer Hoagy Carmichael?!

Somehow I think an American actor still looking to make it big would have jumped at the role.
They had some test footage of him doing a screen test, reenacting the bedroom scene from "From Russia with Love" (one of their favorite screen test scenes-- also had one with Sam Neill when he was under consideration for the role of Bond, as well as James Brolin), and he did a really good job, but he felt he wasn't right for the role... (don't know if that was mutual or not). At any rate, it's interesting to think about... It was on one of the special editions of the Bond DVD's in the extra material...

He certainly had the voice for it, and at that point in his career, the looks for it... his unique voiceover work on "Nuclear Emergency 911" video documentary bears that out (at least to me).

Quite true... all these rather crappy remakes and "reimaginings" nothwithstanding (and the no-taste fans that act like they're the only "real" Batman shows...)
