Wasn't aware that Paypal had moved from eBay.
Good to know.

Keep in mind, eBay is a powerful and successful enterprise
and didn't get that way by allowing people to be ripped off.
Sure, there were all kinds of problems in the early days of paypal and ebay, but most of it was caused by unfair and unscrupulous buyers and sellers.
Thats why ebay kept making changes to their system (to combat unfair practices).

I have never had a problem with paypal, and their protection plans work well.
I have made many claims and received many refunds.

Paypal is the only currency allowed on ebay now, and thats a good thing.
It really helps control the transactions.
As long as you buy and sell by ebay guidelines, you are well protected.

But (Murphy) if you have any problems, or concerns with money and/or transactions
you should be contacting paypal first...and asking them for answers.
If you have "mysterious purchases" showing up in your account, you should be alerting paypal!!
If you think you've been "hacked" why wouldn't you do something about it?
Its your money...why would you guess...and make suppositions on a paper model forum?
Tell your customer to do the smart thing and contact paypal first.

I wasn't the one affected. I was contacted by a customer saying that it happened to them after purchasing one of my models, and I did tell them to contact Paypal.

I started this thread to alert anybody else who uses Paypal, either as a customer or as a merchant, to keep a heads up. There have been a lot of stories in the news lately about major companies getting their customer databases hacked. I wanted to alert people in case it's happening to Paypal.

I well understood what you were talking about.
Last line of my post Aaron: "Tell your customer to do the smart thing and contact paypal first."

But then again, what exactly are you alerting us to?
More paranoia over nothing?

As I said, if you suspect a problem with paypal (*anybody!)
you should be contacting and asking paypal about it
before you start spreading fears and rumours about paypal problems.

Paypal is super safe and reliable...if you follow the basic rules and guidelines of banking.
Its just as safe and reliable as any online banking, which most of us do now.
In fact, its safer than using ATMs these days.

I can echo that. I've had a similar thing through ebay, and Paypal refunded me no problem. I've also had them query a couple of purchases I've made from Osprey Publishing (both legit). Worst part of that is that I had to wait an extra day for the purchase to go through (But I want my books NOW!!!!!)

I did that Rick, then the credit union got to me. First since it was a new account I found out I had to go either online or pay $2 a month for a paper statement. This was after getting about 10 dollars of charges since I wasn't looking at them ever month, because I hadn't been using the account. So then after a few months I finally got around to getting my password straighten out and found out that after 90 days of no activity, there was a 5 dollar a month inactive charge. Had already nipped me for 20 dollars. After going ballistic they did refund the last 2 months charges. I closed the account and rolled the money into my primary account. Said to hell with it, I got enough models to last another lifetime as is.
