Question: Do you want to see a better separation of genres in the forum?

Hi all,

Based on the discussion in this thread here >> Helicopters and Autogyros

I wanted to ask the membership if they would like to see a separation of genres
Say in Aviation, Props, Jets, Rotorcraft
or in Vehicles, Cars, Trucks, Racing Vehicles

I don't want to go too detailed, like WWI, WWII, Mid War, Cold War, Current Generation stuff, but if some separation is welcomed, we will try to accommodate it.

So, vote, speak up here, yell at me in private, or in public if you want to come to Delaware.

Rick

Just so you might have more information to base your vote on, in the Aviation subforum alone, we have 225 pages, with each 20 threads, so that would be at least 4500 threads.

not saying that each subforum would be as bad, but Aviation, and the Armory forums are the two most popular ones here on the forum.

the poll is open for 14 days, and this thread will be open forever, so if you have concerns, or other ideas, please add them here, and we can all discuss, as it affects the entire forum.

Rick

Miles,

You are referring to the Download section, we can take a look at that sometime in the future, but I would agree that the Toy section might need some reshuffling

Regarding aviation forum, there are barely any builds of rotorcraft, so what is the point of having a category when there barely any material there. Same for conventional aircraft. If we had 10 aircraft builds per day , then yes. Otherwise, my opinion is leave it all together.

It is my personal thought that simple things tend to make life easier for the user. And the more subdivisions there are, the more chances for a build to go unnoticed by the many users, buried in subheadings.

As an avid fan of aviation, I like to open the Aviation subforum, and see the many builds fron different eras at one glance. There is always something interesting there to see, even if it is not the kind of airplane I usually build. And sometimes one gets inspiration from build that are not in one's specific field.

When I'm interested in reading past builds or to check what I've missed, I prefer to see all at once. Adding a new (or many) level of clicks means I would have to open a new subforum to see what's there, and go back to open yet another, and back to open another. Or open a new browser tab to check that. In any case that takes more time, and more clicks, and I don't like it.

But that's just my personal taste.

Ultimately this all depends on moderators moving threads around among the hundred (? - I didn't count) subforums. Adding more titles is a problem for the moderators more than for the users. Without working too hard at looking I found nine (9) subforums that have not had a post since 2009. Likely there are more. Seems that the real question would be "How should the entire group be better organized now that there are ten years experience on which to draw?"

Just leave it be. It's been good for what, ten years now, and now because of some flying bumble bee issue.
So let's see, we can have headings like.
Airplanes, one wing, two wings, more than two wings. One engine, two engines, or a whole mess of engines. Round engine, inline engines. Puller or pusher prop. And on, and on, and on.
So, where do you stop. That's why I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Maybe some minor fine tuning, just no overhaul.
