Solid gold Lunar Lander Replica Stolen

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-o...-idUSKBN1AF0Q1
Whoa! I had no idea this even existed. How could you even sell a stolen item like this? Or even if one kept it, it could never be shown, I would think.

Just thinking about that brings a tear to my eye. Beautiful work stolen, then melted down...shame.

If it's any consolation, Melted Gold ingots are extremely hard to sell because the risk they are melted down stolen goods.
Plus with the workmanship and the iconic model, I'm sure it'd fetch quite a lot more as a model rather then just gold. Even if you could only keep it in your private collection.

Yeah, I have heard that most ingots need to show some sort of traceable numbers stamped into them before a legit company would buy them. I remember some conversations similar to this when that guy in NYC walked off with a bucket of gold flakes.

Very sorry to hear about this.

My late sister-in-law lived in Wapakoneta, and I have visited the museum, which is right next door to the restaurant where we held family dinners.
