That is sad.

Never did like the CGI Godzilla. Godzilla needs to be someone in a rubber suit smashing models of buildings.

Turner Classic Movies showed the original Japanese version of Godzilla a few months ago. The Japanese release of Godzilla is much more serious than the American version with the added Raymond Burr segments. I found it particularly interesting that the Japanese would make a movie about the destruction of Tokyo, considering the actual destruction of the city had just happened roughly a decade before and was still a part of living memory.

Godzilla was formed from atomic radiation. The impression (once I was old enough) I got was the Japanese were trying to make a political statement that Godzilla was the (Allied) monster, and they overcame the invader.
Rest in peace Mr. Nakajima, thanks for the fun monster movies when i was growing up.
