Plastic is a polymer, and paper is made from wood fibers, which are made from cellulose, which, being long chains of glucose, is also a polymer. Therefore, plastic=paper. And, if we obey scientific naming conventions, the term 'paper' came first, so plastic should henceforth be referred to as paper.

Isn't science useful?

Ron,
Every now and then everybody needs to "recharge batteries". Do whatever you feel works for you, even if it means building plastic models, then comeback to the fold when you realize that card is much more fun

He'll be back if only to get away from the nit-picking plastics guys. I know, I was one of them for the longest time. I have to curb my urge to nit-pick to this day!

Hello Ron,

have a nice time and enjoy the summer without cardmodelling; I practice the same at the moment; take care of you and see you again ...

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Just to let the members who sent me PMs know what the status is - I have decided not to leave the papermodelers.com community. I am sure that most of the 4,700+ members do not know me nor do they care whether I stay or go - and that's quite alright.

I am a "charter" member of this site, joining as soon as Jason invited me over two years ago. My daily (sometimes hourly) routine was to log in and read every "unread post" that had accumulated since my last visit. Recently, the numbers have skyrocketed due to the influx (hooray!) of many new members. But, as is the case in society in general, you get a mix of personalities when a few hundred people show up.

The reasons I was going to leave were as follows:

1. The recent rash of posts of a non-paper modeling nature that quickly escalated into the equivalent of barroom brawls. Yes, I know they were in the "Cardboard Lounge" and more about that later.

2. Threads that were in areas I liked seemed to be getting buried under a pile of threads in areas of no interest to me.

3. I saw what appeared to me to be an abuse of admin power.

4. I am, by nature, a grumpy old man that has a limited range of interests (paper modeling, genealogy and bourbon.)

Instead of leaving I have decided to stick around but with a new routine:
a. I will not enter the Cardboard Lounge. There is nothing there of interest to me.
b. I will only look at forum subject areas in which I am interested.
c. I will use the "ignore" feature so as not to encounter posts from certain members.
d. I do not care how many unread posts I have if they aren't in my subject areas of interest.

Now that I look those over, my reaction is, "Duh, that was obvious, stupid!" but in addition to being old and grumpy I am also slow...

Bottom line is - I'm not going anywhere, I was here first! I hope we can all enjoy what is the best site of its kind and cut paper (really) instead of each other (virtually.)
