A New Japan Food Craze ????

Japanese Restaurants display plastic replicas of the food they serve.
There is an industry devoted to manufacturing replica food.
Here is their latest product 猫寿司 (neko (cat) sushi) with crawdad and scallion.
It will probably be awhile before this is available in restaurants here in the Midwest.

They taste much better slow roasted in a pit.

There is a "cat cafe" in Columbus, Ohio where cat is served with coffee and pastries.

Cat Cafes started in Taiwan twenty years ago, but they really took off in Japan and are now showing up in big US cities.

That café sounds neat, but in my case it seems like cats find me. Guess it gets around the cat underground, that just show up at his door, look pitiful and you'll get the 'all you can eat' buffet.

Herky,
Japanese restaurants had food models before WW2. Were the models you saw regular food, or were you lucky enough to see a pioneering example of cat food in a restaurant window?
