The fire starter was purchased at Sav-on (unlike the dorks on the survivor TV show, I actually know how to use it!).

I'm inclined to believe you too WWayneGray99...Thanx and Welcome!

I'd give WWayne the prize. The only thing he forgot was phrasing:

Knife, survival, USAF stock number 499, (1) each.

That's funny igoY!
I remember a little package that came in a box of C-Rations, it was a toothpick but the description read; Stimulant, inter dental.

I'm with you RfN. I have carried a p-38 for decades and can't imagine not having one. In fact, it's almost as a much a necessity as a knife.

I checked Wiki and, while it gave a good history of the device, it did not mention the inventor. Someone must have come up with this idea. Sure would be nice to know who it was.

I was once stationed at Blytheville AFB, AR in the late 70's and came across an old machinist who claimed to have made his money manufacturing tent pegs for the Army in WWII.

Just a useless little piece of history. But, I love knowing "who" is responsible for the little things that make our lives so comfortable.

I have NEVER been without one, on keychain, all cars glove box, and several spares.

Wow, that's the P-38?
I have one of those, it's great. Or at least it looks near identical.

Some cans here come with something similar but it manages to break or bend before you're even done. With this thing I can just power through anything quickly.
