Have I been doing this for too long?
While I was showing paper models at the EAA museum, several people asked me, "How long have you been doing this?" I had to think about that.
I built a few paper models in high school but I think it really caught my interest when my 5-year-old daughter and I built a life-size Osprey. She's now 31. And while I can't really pin down the date, I discovered earlier this month that I have been building paper models long enough to wear out a steel straight-edge. It's edge is no longer straight--I've worn a slight curve into it, enough to be noticeable on a cut. I can't decide whether that's impressive or just nuts. Good grief! --David

No way; you're just reaching your stride.

But, just to be on the safe side, you probably ought to get a new steel straight edge.

Make sure you put an actual straight line just under the edge so the curve can be seen.

Time well spent is what I say... with regards to the ruler I would return it for a refund, it must be defective!

Yeah, just don't tally your receipts on blades and glue.

One of many who are now checking their steel straight-edge.

Not long enough, yer still breathin'.
I used a red sharpie to mark the edge of one of my rulers to show that it is still relatively straight as compared to the other edge which has a definite curve to it when lined up on a known straight line.

About 6mo ago I realized there was a slight bow on my straight edge as well. It's now relegated to measuring as opposed to cutting.
