Firefox browser will nuke add ons in November?

It looks like in November 2017 with the update to Firefox 57 most add ons will no longer work. If you look at your add ons list most if not all now have a Legacy tag and will not be compatible with Firefox 57.

Firefox has been friendly to the user, so I guess this change in technology will be swift.

That add-ons become outdated is not new. It happens all the time. Thankfully some of the most popular will adapt to changes quickly so they don't become obsolete. I'm sure the likes of Adblock and Noscript are already preparing for this change. Looks like Firefox is forcing developers to think about the future.

And this isn't new. Since last year Firefox has been rejecting add-ons that will not be compatible with their future development. In this link they mention something in the lines that if it works for version 53 then it will work for 57 (and current update is 55): https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2016...d-ons-in-2017/

This warnings serves to us, as users, to be prepared. I may stop the automatic updates of the browser, in order to continue using the current add-ons I've installed, until I get sure word the 57 and later updates will work properly or the add-ons developers release their latest versions.

TL;DR:
Don't worry. If you already have everything working with your current Firefox 55, chances are high it will keep that way when 57 arrives.

Ouch!
All of the Firefox extensions that I use are now in the legacy category with the update to ver. 55, a couple of them have lost functionality, and on some web sites the Firefox slider bars freeze up.
I looking at Opera or Maxthon as replacements for Firefox.

Since Firefox doesn't create the add-ons, you can't really expect them to keep accomodating.
Its up to the makers of each add-on to create new ones that are compatible.

Firefox is informing us that certain add-ons are in the "legacy" class, making them incompatible.
But they are suggesting you look at comparable add-ons that are compatible with the new Firefox.

They're also giving us plenty of warning.

Although I am not currently using Firefox as my default browser,
I still appreciate the way they are keeping their users informed of what is happening.

Lets not forget how photobucket handled a recent change (in their service).

I got sick of all the issues with Firefox, so I took The-Edsel's advice. I completely uninstalled Firefox (using Revo Uninstaller). Then I installed Firefox 45 and turned off automatic updates. The first thing I noticed was that LastPass worked again. It had sorta worked, but it wouldn't show my recent sites and the search of the vault didn't work. Now it's back.

If you want to download an older version of Firefox, you can get the full installer by using this link. Change "45" to whatever version you want. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.0/

Firefox was updated today to version 57.
Some slight cosmetic changes were made.
Everything seems to be working fine for me.

Most of the add-ons I have installed from before are still working fine.
Some others (like "Google image search" and "No-Script") are not working,
but it just a case of the add-on creators to keep them updated.

AdBlock is working fine too.

Many of your Add-Ons and Extensions have already been updated.

Mozilla announced the new changes a long time ago to allow for compatibility updates.
The idea was that every time the Firefox browser got updates, it affected your installed Add-Ons.
Mozilla wanted all Add-Ons to built within a compatible framework so this wouldn't happen.

Mozilla gave Makers plenty of time to update their software and make it compatible with Firefox.

Originally I had three Legacy Extensions.
Anything that was known to be incompatible with the new Mozilla platform would be deemed a Legacy item.

Over the months, two of my Legacy add-ons were updated and are not "Legacy" anymore.
Ad-Block Pro and Flash Downloader.

I purposely downloaded and installed Firefox Version 57 today
and sure enough, all but one of my add-ons are working.
(Translate This has not been updated by the manufacturer, as far as I know)

And even the incompatible add-on has options from Mozilla to find "a compatible replacement".
Which I will look into later on.

I have been using Chrome for months, since this whole update Firefox, and Legacy add-on issue started.
I didn't understand a lot of what was going on.

Hopefully things have improved greatly with v.57, and I am going to start using it again to find out.
I've always used to use two browsers anyway, so it won't be a big change for me.
