time vs dollars vs being a purist vs selling out

I am building a sailing ship model, have been stalled for awhile because I need about 2 dozen dead eyes.
I am holding a piece of walnut dowel in my hand, I just finished looking at a couple of internet hobby stores.
I can buy the dead eyes for under 5 dollars including shipping or I can make them for no dollar cost at all with the tools I own and the wood scraps I already have, but will have set up a couple of power tools and put in a couple hours of repetitive effort, then clean up. My hobby time does not have a monetary value, the choice is spending time at the work bench making parts or spending it on some other activity.
Or do I put it off for a couple more months until I am a prisoner of the weather, when going outside is miserable. Right now it is getting cold, but a walk in a park, or a road trip to see the sights is still relatively pleasant.
This is an internal debate with myself, I think I am going to put off making a decision and go fix dinner.

If the question is "paper pure" as opposed to pooping out and buying the plastic or metal part,
I say try to stick with the paper pure approach.

But in this case, its spend time, effort and money producing a non-paper (wood) part
or
buy the non-paper (wood) part real cheap and spend the time putting more work into paper stuff...?
I say the latter sounds good to me.

Unless this isn't even a "paper" model?...then I don't care.
Why am I here?

But seriously, don't waste time on something if you can't get your head and heart into it
...especially if you can get the readymade parts cheap.

Funny, I thought Dave would've posted this here. It's his after all, I just borrowed it.

When it comes to snippin' a few dozen deadeyes though ... I just empty the paper punch.

^^^^ THIS FIRST.

You can either do this while you wait for the parts arrive in the mail, or wait for inclement weather.

(I have bee a victim of self-inflicted cabin fever in the past, I now realize the value in getting out while the opportunities are still there.)

Hubble got shelved for this exact same debate. All of those hand holds would be so easy ... as wire ... after I create a form tool ... but then it won't be paper ...

Of course, only you can determine how much (if any) pleasure you will derive from hand-crafting the deadeyes.

If pleasure = zero, then I suppose the scale tilts toward the after-market items.

In any event, I derived pleasure from reading your post and the replies.
