Blood Chit
So, today I have the honor be a judge on a group of young artist's drawings and paintings at the Chinese Community Center. It was harder than I thought... I don't want to make the kids cry...
But, what did I see inside the Chinese Community Center... a genuine World War Two Flying Tiger Blood Chit donated by an Army General. Never see a genuine World War Two Blood Chit up close before, I was so excited!

Wow this is some hard piece of real history you wouldn't run into everyday... Is this the same one as photographed in the wikipedia page? I would guess not a lot of them survived to this day...

Just shows to me how stupid all this politics and wars are. 75 years ago the Chinese and the Russians were our allies. Now the government tries to scare us into thinking they are enemies.
As a boy I devoured God is my Copilot. Still have that book DOUBLE signed by Robert L. Scott. He signed it once for my aunt in 1945 and signed it again in about 2002 before his death. I realize now that it is full of propaganda. Ok. Off my soapbox now. You are a lucky guy to stumble onto that.

What maybe of interest is the many variations....types of material used and placement on articles of clothing. Not all carried numbers and some were actually made in the US.....these are numbered. Alas, the market is really saturated by fakes (the ones I had were obtained from individuals, not dealers). |

I think the lady (forgot her name already :p) in charge of the Chinese Community Center don't really know what she got there, how important that little piece of cloth to the Chinese and American in WW2. I'll be going back for the award ceremony sometime later, I'll talk to her more about that. ... or I'll just walk out with it... I don't think anyone in the Chinese Community Center will notice it's gone... :D Just kidding... maybe... :D

Thanks for sharing this historical artifact. Its association with the air war in Burma and China makes it of interest to me.

Anna Chenault
Allen,
Brings back some old memories. General Claire Chenault's wife, Anna, died recently, March 30, 2018 at 94. She was "quietly known" as the "Dragon Lady" in Washington, D.C. and was connected with Flying Tiger air transport as a publicist for a number of years. The New York Times printed a fair obituary of Anna; https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/03/o...ault-dead.html -Gil |
