Names on a Black Wall...

Names on a Black Wall

As you gather this weekend with your family and friends please take a few moments to think of all those who have died for your country. Many of us live with these memories every day. I think of Lt. Richardson's daughter who is now a 48 year old woman. I think of all the Mother's who have lived with the memory of the Death Notification team coming to their door to give them that most dreadful message. I think of all the young wives who were so excited to be starting a life with their new husband only to have him wiped from her life forever.

It is not "Happy Memorial Day". It is "Thoughtful and Thankful Memorial Day"

Good thoughts, Brother.

I will be remembering my own list of names.

I promise I will. That to me is what this weekend is all about. The picnics and Bar-B-Q's and get together's are great and nice but taking out a minutes doesn't harm any one. Give them the time as they gave us there all. wc

It has been several generations back that any known ancestors have died in the service. Currently though, 4 are paying the physical health and/or PTSD price; Dad, Uncle Alan, my brother, and my brother's oldest son.
Nephew is having to leave Army this year because his PTSD is that bad, and he has wife and 2 preschool children.
I'm more concerned about the living dead than the dead dead.

Michael,

Very well stated. I only had to write a few letters, but that was a few letters too many.

I wasn't there. Was back on the East Coast at Fort Meyer Va, right next to Arlington Cemetery. Assigned to the Army ceremonial unit. Spent my days burying all the guys that didn't make it home. Leaves its own kind of scars. Your posts are well put gentlemen. RIP for those in eternal rest. Thanks guys.

I take time to remember friends who died in Vietnam [I never went due to 4F status] and my step-nephew who died in Iraq in 2005 as well as friends and family who came home and have since passed on.
