Very sad facts. Those are some very painful figures that should never
be repeated anywhere in the world. A tragic loss for all the families, and for the society. I had read some about that war in the history classes at school. But I only really started to slightly understand it last year after watching the 10-part documentary by Burns and Novick. That's a very interesting project that shows how far in the past the roots of the conflict were. And how the pain of the war got so deep inside the persons, families, and the common people. Even being a foreigner, I can understand that it was a very complex situation that actually shaped the current US society in several levels. I may not grasp it completely in all its dimensions, but after watching that series, I certainly feel I learned much more than what can be just read from Wikipedia or old history books. Here's an interview with the producers of the series: As could be expected, the series received mixed criticism from many sides saying it had some bias, and/or overlooked certain aspects/events of the war, or for leaving out some important things that needed to be said. I don't know if that's true or not. But at least I can say as an outsider I feel I learned something I didn't knew before. And hopefully, a critical viewer may see beyond its faults and get a different view from the many interviews of the actual people who were there. The PBS website has a site with clips from the series, and other stories from veterans: The Vietnam War: A film by Ken Burns & Lynn Novick (probably the clips may not be watched outside the US because of copyrights). I think, in the end, it is important to remember the pain and the effects of the war, so that we learn, and future generations don't suffer the same.

Thank you for posting this my friend. You've triggered all the emotions that figures like this should bring out in ALL humanity to stop this senseless waste ever repeating itself. But sadly here we are in 2018 with many parts of the world still at each other's throats. But I do believe that constant reminders like this WILL eventually see the human race wake up it to itself.
