Wouldn't it be great if it was mandatory for schools to teach a course on 'war studies'. The students would them learn the real, not the cinematic, and they could hold intelligent discussions.
But then, wouldn't it be great if it was a perfect world.

Sounds great, but where would the teachers get this "REAL" information from? Many youngsters notice that their older relations are very reluctant to talk about their war experiences, but although I admit there are many things I wouldn't want my rugrats to know that I was involved in, there are also so many, many things that I (and many like me) are just not allowed to talk about ... EVER! Even to a shrink.

If we send fifty men against a machine gun post and three of them get through to take it out ... we won, right? Never forget son, that in the Army you are just a number.

In times of war it matters little who is RIGHT ... All that really matters is who is LEFT.

Sorry for that Gotham, but you touched a nerve.

JohnM - that touched nerve is what people need to know about.

Yes John,

I left so many friends behind when I boarded my "Freedom Bird" home. It really wasn't until years later that the real amount of their sacrifice sank into my feeble brain..

I was such a hot shot with my Loach and mini guns. Wore my .38 way down on my hip. Strutted around like I was the biggest, baddest rooster in the coop!

The military did this to me and they are still doing it today to these young kids.

OK. Off my soapbox and back to me BeBe...

I take your point and somewhat agree with it, but believe me, it ain't never gonna happen.

I watch with interest every time "Bloody Sunday" comes back into the news. I have no doubts that sooner or later some (long retired) paras will get civilian jail time for it, but none of the Officers will ever be mentioned, let alone charged. Yet at the end of the so called "Troubles" all of the Irish prisoners were forgiven and given a free pardon, regardless of what their crimes were. Funny old world ain't it?

Too true, JohnM, too true.
Isn't the truth the 1st victim of conflict ? (I may be paraphrasing).
