I wish more modern kids were able to hear stories from the old generation esp about war. There is much to be learnt. Thanks for sharing.

about teaching about wars in school. I am bipolar on this account. when info about wars is taught, it is usually from the victors point of view and it seems to endow in the minds of impressionable youths that it might be terrible but look we won and isn't that a glorious outcome. this plants the view as long as we win it is a viable solution. ask any children of a war vet they say their vet loved one doesn't want to talk about the war and if they do it is usually about the hijinks that happen between horrors or furloughs and leaves. this still leaves a dangerous gap in the minds of youth about the real horrors of war. I do believe we need to teach about the wars so they do not get lost to history and we repeat the same senseless acts. But we need to ingrain on these young minds somehow, that there is a huge cost when war is waged, the terrible lost of lives and property. A tough task indeed.
