I'm pretty sure I did a recolor of one of John McCain's Skyhawks based on Bruno's 1:300 model.

Looks live I never posted it. Can't find any VA-46 A-4E in the attachment list of Bruno's thread or in my uploads in the DL section. Probably had some issues with the tartan.

I'll check my Skyhawk folder when I get home.

It would certainly look much better with Bruno's 1:100 model.TT

Found it! I actually posted it in a zip archive with updated files (revised fin). That's why I couldn't find anything with VA-46 in the file name.

That one was destroyed in the fire that broke out on USS Forrestal on july 29 1967.

I think Fiddlersgreen's free Skyhawk depicts the plane he was flying when he was shot down.
(edit: the one with post-it notes in the "for designers" section)

Not to diminish the effort and suffering of any other serviceman,
but its breathtaking to read McCain's Viet Nam story.

A year or two ago, I read a detailed online article about his capture and imprisonment...
and his torture (during the Viet Nam conflict).
One thing that is hard to fathom, is the the idea of being held captive for so long ...5 and half years!
It might have been this one:
https://www.usnews.com/news/articles...person-account

Its amazing this man survived...and then what he accomplished later in life.
Too bad he didn't win the Presidency.
The US would definitely be a different country...for the better, I am sure.

Being European, I will not comment on his political standpoints, but as far as I can see, the man was very decent and brave, with his heart at the right place. I wish him clear skies.

Actually no, same unit but different number. I made the correct one and posted an updated file with both the VA-46 and VA-163 planes in Bruno's thread.

With McCain's extraordinary military service record and his obvious sense of decency and honor, politics don't matter a scratch.

That is a way much better way of saying what I was wanting to say a few comments earlier. You are hitting the nail on its head, Rata.
