Nice looking place, looks like you right sized.

Whulsey, one nice thing about living in Arizona or next door New Mexico is that you are not expected to sink a lot of time, money and effort in maintaining a lawn.

No need for a mower, if you get ambitious, you can invest in a rake, and do the Zen thing with the rocks and sand in your yard.

The problem is I love a lawn ..and a garden.

Congratulations, you received my 1st replay from the new house. Just got the computer set up, got 2 of the cats up here, the third tomorrow. Need to go get the coffee maker set up next then its really official. 2 trips from Glendale to here today, cat per trip. Its close to 4 hour round trip so pretty much shot the day.

Doug - exactly what I did. Bought cheap outside an "exclusive" area and did it up slowly. Much better idea.

That all looks pretty nice - could you not put in an enclosed walkway or even a corridor to the back?

You could have a small lawn with some careful planning. And pot plants work well. I will send a pic of what I mean and how great they look. Small enclosed area, shadecloth, water feature, pot plants and a small grass patch!

---------------------

Dave - a "House I live in or where I live"section is a good idea.

Rick? This could be the first thread put in there?

Doug, have though about that. But I actually like yard work; grew up on a farm so digging in the dirt is in the genetics.

FRD, actually it is cooler and a bit more humidity up here (3800 ft) then down in Glendale, one of the reasons for moving.

Don and Wideride, thanks!

As mentioned in railroad thread, need to get going while I have the rental pu. And get some more breakfast, been living on rice crackers, hummus and coffee for the last couple of days.

Few more pics:
se corner of living room: before, starting to fill it up, steps in backyard up to hillside. The room on right is the back edge of workroom.

Good luck with your new project/house. I’m sure it’ll turn out just beautiful. I’ve rebuilt two houses in my lifetime so I know what an undertaking it can be. Just hang in there and stay away from the snakes.

Congrats on your "new" house. It would have been nice if you could have stayed in Ca but thievery is an honored profession in this state and the locals forced you to reconsider.
