Blues Brothers

DVR'd it the other night and watching it now. Wish it hadn't been chock-full of ads to FF through. But this is so good on so many levels. If someone were to design the cars used in this movie, they would probably be kept busy for a lifetime....

Yep, got those, but not the Mystery Woman's 1977 Grand Prix, or the highway Patrol, or The Good Ol' Boys Winnebago, or the Nazi Pinto Wagon, or ...

ahh ...the Nazi Pinto Wagon.

That brings back memories of my youth.

Shut up...No, I wasn't a Nazi...I owned Pintos.
And I enjoyed the seventies.

I wonder how many junk yards were filled to capacity after that movie.

That mall was already scheduled for demolition

I wonder if there is an actual count on how many cars were wrecked in the filming of that movie

yes there is...I read it somewhere.
Or, at least some sort of approximation.
Considering there were also stunt doubles and special stunt vehicles for specific scenes.

I also watched a documentary on the making of the movie...it might have been mentioned in there too.

103 cars destroyed in the 1980 film, 104 cars destroyed in Blues Brothers 2000.
Blues Brothers held the record for the most cars smashed until its own sequel deliberately destroyed just one more. For the 1980 film’s main chase, 60 police cars were bought for $400 a piece, and outfitted with reinforced chassis. Most of the cars were unsalvageable by the time filming was over.
Many figures only reference the "big" crash scene
so I don't know how accurate the numbers are for the entire film.
And I guess this figure does not include the damaged stunt doubles.
There were multiple Pintos and 13 different Bluesmobiles.

The movie Junkman held the record of 150 cars in a single film around the same time.

Movie with the most cars destroyed?...
Transformers 3 with 532 cars.
Mostly flood damaged cars that were destined to be scrapped, donated to the film.

I think there should be some sort of distinction between scrap/parked/undriveable cars...as opposed to functional automobiles.
Destroying a parking lot full full of scrap isn't quite the same is it?

Not at all.

I also think that after filming a scene, they would check to see which could be cleaned up to be 'destroyed' again in another scene.

There sure was a delightful touch of Mayhem in that movie, with a wonderful soundtrack
