Emil's son Atanas writes on Facebook:
My heart is broken: my father, Emil Zarkov, passed away yesterday. No son could have wished for a better father. We miss him so much already... May his memory be eternal! I first met Emil when he visited the US years ago for a son's wedding. We toured the EAA museum together and talked about airplanes, paper models, and life. He was gentleman, in every sense, and I am grateful to have known him as a friend.

R.I.P. Dr Zarkov. My condolence to the family and friends as well. Your models were the first high-quality paper models I ever built.

Condolances to the family. One of the first digital paper models I bought was Dr. Zarkov's Bf-109G.

This is very sad news. Dr. Zarkov's models were superb. He made an enormous contribution to the paper modeling and aviation history communities.
