Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is burning

Looks like a serious situation in Paris. Check out whatever news feed you use for details. So far the roof and spire has collapsed.

Exclamation

Looks like a total loss from what I see on TV. Just the outside walls standing.

I hope they were busy removing all the artifacts out of there. Even if it is pulled outside to the street.

Hopefully vandals will not take artifacts from this event.

Isaac

Not a lot was pulled from what I heard, but many of the bronze statues had already been pulled for restoration.

Wouldn't you hate to find out that you forgot to shut off your equipment when you left for the day and that was the cause of the fire? I'm sure that's what it will end up being the cause, since they were doing a restoration

Someone was on the news praising the firefighters for trying to save what they could of the paintings and artifacts. Let's hope they were more successful than I think they probably were

I feel very sad about these news.
Notre Dame is one of the iconic places around the world.
I wish the best for our French, and particularly Parisian fellows.
Receive my sympathy for this loss.
Fire has erased very important chapters in our history.
Praise the firefighters!

The roof and spire certainly were destroyed but the walls and end towers seem to be intact. If memory serves me correctly the roof of Notre Dame was Lead sheeting on a wooden frame. I have a recollection that you could look along the inside of the roof from one of the towers and I remember it as having massive wooden beams. I don't know whether any of the spectacular windows survived - I suspect not.

Regards,

Charlie

They will rebuild. But it will take decades.

And it will not be the same, even if they do exactly the same. It's a shame.
