Its been a while since the last report, so I guess it is due.
I'm sure many have questioned why it has taken so long for nothing to happen...I get it. But trust me, a lot has happened. It just hasn't happened as fast as we (or you) would want. There are two major issues plaguing us... the first is that this is a not a full time operation. Chris Gutzmer (the owner of ecardmodels) has a full time career, a family, and many other responsibilties. There are others working very hard behind the scenes to help, but they also have lives to deal with. And communication between us takes time...emails and online chat...trying to coordinate operations all the time... with all the coordinated tasks we try to do, things can get really bogged down sometimes. So, what might have been done in one month under the correct circumstances, has taken one year. The second and most frustrating problem has to do with building a new store on a new website. The goal has always been to recover, reorganize and restock the 4000 or so kits from the old store. And to reinstate the 150+ designers and repainter accounts. This has not worked out as easily as we had hoped (since the old servers crashed). Much of the original data was corrupted, lost, or just disorganized. If the setup of a completely new store isn't hard enough, the recovery of the original inventory has been a nightmare. And all the other related problems we have encountered have only served to delay the responsible opening of a new store. Recovering the inventory isn't the only issue...figuring out how to recreate all the original product listings is a task unto its own. Even if we were able to restock the original inventory, theres also no point in opening with technical issues, and we also have to consider the safety and security of everyone's accounts. There have been some who have shaken their heads and claimed they could have done better. Apparently talking through your hat is a common internet activity these days. And we've been criticized for taking too long. We can apologize for that, but I don't think we have too. We are all suffering too...with the amount of work...and the loss of sales and web prescence. So...will ecards be back?...yes. When?...I don't know. If thats not enough for ya, find a way to occupy your time...maybe get a hobby? ... Please, accept this free paper model from ecardmodels as compensation.

Nice to hear a report of where ecardmodels stands.
I appreciate that trying to accomplish this outside your work and home lives has delayed your work. I'm sure your clients are glad you are taking every measure possible to restore your stock without risking losing control of your inventory. Thank you for the update and I hope the progress continues. Cheers, John Gay |

Gentlemen. Do what needs to be done, in the time you need to do it.We will wait patiently, as that is one benefit of what this hobby teaches us.

Luckily, there are a busload of other free models out there to build. More than you will be able to build in your lifetime. You could try and make some of them in the time inbetween.
@ Dave, I hope your kind offer of a free model won't be showing up on a Chinese shopping site soon... (-; |

There are so many other venues of getting digital files, and even more with printed kits out there.
The fascination/obsession with eCards is just that. How about some more building threads. Is there a slowdown in building? Isaac

Isaac,
It is not a fascination/obsession with Ecards. It is a loyalty. Loyalty to a vast selection in one place. Loyalty to ease of use. Loyalty to just about any skill or detail level you could choose from. Loyalty to customer service above the standard. Loyalty to fairly priced products. And we appreciate their loyalty, patience and continued support while we work out the problems to bring forth a better, more enjoyable and secure model shopping experience. There are also those who choose to spend and support designers, with a service that is based on conditions they are comfortable with. If you choose to not use Ecards, that is your choice. Others prefer it.

Please keep this in mind Ecardmodels is the only venue for many designers to sell their models, without having to set up a store themselves, either time or money prevents that. Yes, many designers have built their own storefront, but look at Ecardmodels as an online Mall, allowing you to purchase any model you like from any designer you like. Not everyone can purchase printed kits and have them ship from Poland or the Czech Republic, some people do not have the means to put a lot of money into the hobby as they might like to. And as you know, one of the beauties of paper modeling, especially in the form of digital kits(both free and bought) is the ability to reprint if you mess up, it only costs some sheets of paper, and ink, and time, and not another order from Poland due to messing up a fuselage or wheel. So, people have the right to be fascinated/obsessed with ecardmodels, it provides an means to make money, promote the product, and it allows you to save some money in the process. Rick
