I watched that clip and tried to imagine what it looked like with hundreds...maybe thousands...of chutes coming down.
That alone would have been a powerful sight on that day back in 1944.

Were paratroopers all Americans on that day?

I know there were British and Canadians, but the bulk was about 13,000 US.

I am not sure if all of the jumpers or some of the jumpers shown in the clip were from the USA. The flight took off from England to make the drops. There was a website that allowed you to follow the progress of the aircraft from the UK to Normandy, France.

That particular drop zone was for British para. Before the drops the streamers were interviewing a reenactor from England whose group was going to reenact an assault on a German artillery position later that day.

Here is a link to the longer video taken on that day. It is around 3 hours long and has the interview with the reenactor.

I was referring to the actual jumps on D-Day.

I checked Wikipedia, and it confirms Missileer's number, 13100 American jumpers
another article mentions 8500 British jumpers
As for the Canadians, it seems one company was formed before D-Day, 616 men
for a total of 22216 jumpers
