The Wall

We know internet in China has this great firewall censoring unwanted propaganda content abroad. So,

Only when I was physically in China last week did I realise that... It appeared that papermodelers.com is blocked in its entirety by the GFW, starting some point around early 2019. All access requests to this domain now results in a timeout.

As to why the GFW would want to block a cardmodel hobby forum is, well, quite beyond me. Maybe the plastic model companies paid them into doing this :P

So it really means that the number of Chinese visitors to this forum will go from a handful to quite literally zero. I mean of course, VPN services to bypass GFW are a must-have for any serious Chinese netizen. But the additional hassle involved will simply turn away all but the most dedicated visitors. Kartonbau, Korandus and other EU/Russian forums are still accessible as far as I know, so it appears Papermodelers have simply drawn the short straw.

probably a simpler reason than that, the server is located in the US, so there might be blocks based on geography

Just goes to show that censorship is not a good thing...............no matter the reason or justification.

The capitalist propaganda put out by this forum is no doubt causing the socialist proletariat in Beijing to regard us as revolutionary upstarts bent on the total destruction of their workers' paradise....or something like that....long live Cut Fold and Glue !!

Let me quote this,

"The worst thing about censorship is **********"

There is no doubt that I will keep relaying interesting builds here to the community in China. Now, I think we can get back to the capitalist propaganda business :P

Actually, the root of the thing is the paper modelers' fundamentalist anarchical rebellion against the monopoly of plastic, every paper model built tolls a bell of doom to a Chinese plastics factory. If this heretical movement grows even by one half-A4 page, the widespread apostasy could wreck the nation!
;D
But, yes, paper modeling is a conspiracy to undermine the Chinese plastics industry.
There, I said it!

Personally, I think it's because we refrain from making comments about ginger hair and comb-overs.
Politics, paper and plastic are forbidden.

Perhaps it may be as simple as we have nothing that they wish to steal.
