The New and Improved Ecardmodels

We're back!
Well, its been a couple of months now...and we are (sort of) in full swing restocking the store.

It took a while to work out many bugs, but we have finally done it,
and business is back in swing.

Chris Gutzmer doesn't know that I am posting this...lol...uh oh...

Thank you to all of you who have returned, set up a new account, and are giving us your money!
Without your patience and support, it just wouldn't have happened.

Its been hectic.
We, the staff, know better than anyone, the frustrations and problems that Chris has had to endure in the past year.
We are also aware of the never ending expenses that Chris throws at this store.

Many of you don't realize that this isn't a money making venture.
We, the staff, work for free basically.
Sure, we get access to any models we want...but thats it.
And Chris does it out of a long standing interest and connection with this community.

yes, Chris works hard, to make some sort of profit...
profit that must go back into the store to pay for the software and web expenses, file storage, promotion, advertising, new computer hardware,
and much much more.

This is one of the reasons for such a long delay in getting the store back online.
It had to work without being a losing venture.

New Pricing..Great Value.
We are doing our best to retain much of the old pricing.
Keep re-issued older models at the same prices (from the old store)
and adding new models at fair and competitive prices.
Honestly, we can't control the asking price of any model, but if we think a model is overpriced,
we will talk with the vendor and try to reach a better deal for you.

And the goal has always been to offer the best commissions to vendors,
and Chris is still doing that!

But the expenses don't stop going up, up, up!
So we also have to find ways to keep the store lights on.

Many of you may have noticed a "Site Support" Fee added to purchases during the checkout.
Its only 25cents per model...but it helps towards site expenses.
I'm sorry we didn't talk about this sooner.

It would have been easy to lower the vendors commissions,
or slightly raise the price of every model (how would you have known?).
But that would have been unfair to many and deceptive to the rest.

Instead we opted for a transparent Fee...a small amount, that over time, could
afford the store a bit more monetary support (help cover some of the expenses).

Restocking.
Its going to be hard to get every model, from the old store, back into the new store.
There just may be too many models.
But with time, we will get a large portion of the original ecardmodels catalog back.
So....Patience.

Right now, consideration has to be "new" models...obviously everyone has to move forward
and Designers didn't stop designing when ecardmodels went on hiatus!

But we recognize there are many older models that are still in high demand
and that are great sellers.
We are listening when a people start asking for something.
We don't need to be swamped with requests, but posts and comments on the forums are monitored,
and we have already moved some older kits "up the line".

FAQs
I added a FAQs/Help page to the store, that will hopefully explain the basics of setting up an account
and answer a few important questions.
Please look there first...

but if you have any more questions about the store or its operations, feel free to post them here...
but don't forget, the site has a Support line...a direct email just for help and technical support.
The link is there, on the Help page.
Remember, its only for issues related to Orders, Log-In problems, Vendor Accounts, or any technical Site issues etc.

Anything else?
Let me know.

And...its been great to hear the nice words of support since we lost Glenn Merrill.
"Elliott" would have been quite amazed at the response, I'm sure.
Elliott was a member and moderator here, and the longest running staff member at ecardmodels.
He is sorely missed.

In case you didn't already know, we have some amazing "Memorial" Paper Models,
generously donated by some of our Vendors to raise funds for one of Glenn's favorite charities.
https://www.stbaldricks.org/

The contributing designers are: Scissors and Planes, Design Group Alpha, and John Dell...thanks to them.

If you haven't grabbed one (or six) yet, please consider it.
All funds...every bit...goes to the charity. Nobody gets a cut of these!

Just search (at ecardmodels.com) for "memorial models" to find them.

Thanks for the update and additional information, Dave. And thanks to the whole ECardmodels team for all the hard work of reconstituting the site and making such great models available.

(Everyone) Please don't turn this thread into a "request list".

If Skyline models have registered to be a vendor with the "new" ecardmodels,
then their models will get listed (and relisted).
Vendors themselves have to re-apply to be vendors in the new system.

It was explained elsewhere that this is a new store...all old accounts (Vendor and Customer) are lost.
This is the biggest hold up to restoring the stock of any Vendor.
The other, is the sheer number of models that have to be published.

Skyline models that were at the old ecardmodels have most likely been sorted and are available for reissue
once the vendor account is set up, and the vendor indicates what files to publish first.
We expect that many vendors will have new product to publish first, so that will probably be the priority.

So...if you want a specific model, by a specific Designer, it might be a good idea to contact that Designer
and ask "when will it be available at ecardmodels?"
and remind them to do their part.

I sure would love to see Ken West's 1/6-scale Apollo Astronaut back on the site. (Wink, wink.)

David,

Dave mentions in his last line what you could try, email Ken in this case, and see if he can reup the file, or push for a faster relisting
