Architect Richard Vyškovský died

Yesterday, at the age of 90, architect Richard Vyškovský died. Founder of paper modeling in the Czech Republic, master of his craft, designer who created several hundred paper models, beautiful, hand-drawn, full of spirit, a man who brought me to my lifelong hobby 40 years ago. He created models of all categories, civilian and military technique, Formula 1, but above all architecture. His models are some of the most beautiful ever created. Rest in peace.

Yes, R.I.P.
He did come up with some nice looking architectural models.

Very sorry to hear that. I wish more of his models were available in the US, especially the small-scale buildings he did for ABC Magazine back in the day. Rest In Peace, sir.

As it happens, I finished one of his models from "The Golden Book" only a couple of days ago.

He will be greatly missed.

And again, as all too often these days, a giant has been taken from us...

And again we lose one of the Greats. RIP Richard.

And just in case there are a few newbies that haven't heard of him ... Richard Vyškovský: "Nejsem žádný modelář ..."

Read about Richard in his own words, then scroll down to drool over a huge gallery of his work. You'll need a translator in gear.

The rest of the website is well worth exploring too.

Very sad news - one of my very first paper models (the second I ever made) was one of the buildings - sent to me by a friend.

I loved his distinctive style of artwork, and have built over the years more of his models than any other designers. And will continue to do so in the future.

And while it is sad he has gone, we all will at some stage - and he had a good inning.

Best of all he does leave behind a huge variety of models - which hopefully will continue delight modellers of all ages going forward.
