Cincinatti BIG Iron

A web site about the very large triple expansion steam engines that provided power to the Cincinnati Water Works. The web site is almost as large as the stem engines it commemorates.

At one time the city also had floating water pumps to supplement the in ground pumping station.

Lots of files and pictures to download, including a list of remaining stationary steam engines in the US that are open to the public.
The original ox-powered water system would make an interesting model, as would the Victorian red brick Gothic buildings of the steam era water works.
Cincinnati Triple Steam (Tours Available)
I had to fight down the urge to title this post Cincinnati Heavy Metal.

The last High Service steam engine was removed from the Elyria Ohio Water Works in 1954.
I worked at the Elyria Water works from 1972 to 2004.
