Paper Beer Bottle?

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Oct. 11, 2019 /CNW/ -- C40 World Mayors Summit: Carlsberg Group has today updated on its journey to create the world's first 'paper' beer bottle made from sustainably-sourced wood fibres that is both 100% bio-based and fully recyclable.

Carlsberg has unveiled two new research prototypes of its Green Fibre Bottle, which are the first 'paper bottles' to contain beer. Carlsberg also announced it has been joined by other leading global companies who are united in their vision of developing sustainable packaging through the advancement of paper bottle technology.

The two new research prototypes are made from sustainably-sourced wood fibre, are fully recyclable and have an inner barrier to allow the bottles to contain beer. One prototype uses a thin recycled PET polymer film barrier, and the other a 100% bio-based PEF polymer film barrier. These prototypes will be used to test the barrier technology as Carlsberg seeks a solution to achieve their ultimate ambition of a 100% bio-based bottle without polymers.

what I don't understand is why glass is not considered an ecologically safe medium
and not completely recyclable?
I always thought it was.

The continued use of "polymers" seems to make this less environmentally friendly.

the problem with glass is that most single stream recycling facilities don't do glass anymore. Our glass from Omaha was trucked up to somewhere in South Dakota for a few years before they quite doing it.

I hope these bottles work. They would do a great job of keeping light out and prevent skunking the beer for a long while.

It seems to be a profit issue and some politics mixed with it, always a bad situation. Here were I live the only recycling had been for #2 plastic drink bottles and paper and they just stopped the paper last month since they couldn't make any money with it.

Yeah, it would be good if the paper beer bottle venture did not fold like the paper wine bottle venture (I caught that, Rick).

Recylcling is getting to be a hit or miss thing. If they stop accepting paper it would be bad. I would estimate that at least 98% of the stuff in my recylcing bin is always paper by weight and volume.

It seems that aluminum would still be the best bet. Everyone seems to want aluminum. You see people pushing shopping carts all of the time full of aluminum cans.

They washed glass bottles for decades and it worked fine.
But these days its all about hyper-hygiene.

Everyone is a wimp nowadays, getting sick from everything.
Kids need to go outside...roll around in the mud...eat some dirt...learn which bathroom to use...and build up a tolerance for peanuts.
Then they'll be able to drink beer from cleaned and refilled bottles!

I was just wondering, if the paper bottle will improve the taste of Danish beer?

Q. You know what improves the taste of danish beer?
A. Guiness!
