Are we sure "buttons on the right" is the way its always been on Men's clothing?

We may have the right vehicle now...looks good....except, that photo is also reversed! lol

We may have to conclude that the photo Miles posted is indeed reversed
and the painting (of a waterfall) is NOT Niagara Falls.

Theres no way anyone would paint a Niagara backdrop and reverse the Falls deliberately.
So it must be a different waterfall, maybe just a fantasy landscape of something like Niagara.

Maybe the photo got reversed to make it look more like Niagara Falls?
Or once reversed, someone assumed it was Niagara.

Miles...the photo is incorrectly labelled Niagara Falls, and 1897.
Tell your Niagara Falls history group, that they are incorrect.

The tires and rims look to be modern design, i doubt that the original tires were this knobby

I think you'll find both knobby and smooth tires being used on wire spoked (bicycle style) wheels
since mud and dirt roads were still the most common.

Some 1899 tires and wheels

If this is a Tintype picture (and I think it is), The way a Tintype camera works is the photo is inverted and mirrored by the lens (as shown below). The photographer would know this and probably had the background painted backwards to compensate for this. However, he could do nothing for the auto, or the people's clothing. This is just my thoughts, I could be wrong.

The Name of the file is the key.
It is a 1904 Niagara manufactured by the Wilson Auto MFG. Company in Wilson New York. It appears that Wilson stopped manufacturing in 1907

Wilson is about 15 miles from Niagara Falls hence the name.

Intrigued by this thread, I did some googling for 'vintage electric car at Niagara Falls'.Ended up at the site of the Royal Ontario Museum - with two pictures which show conclusively that the background is a painting -concdntrate on the vertical rock on the right, which is identical in both pictures (though only a very narrow strip is visible in the one with the car. I suggest further search for car makers in the Ontario are might turn up more information.

Jim, while the Niagara connection makes perfect sense,
there are a lot differences between that car (the 1904 Niagara) and the one in our photo.
A lot!
I disagree that that is the car.

And what about the 1897 versus 1904 detail?

...
Nice photo/painting of two women in front of a waterfall.
With a tree trunk on the right.
Not the same painting.
"conclusively"
lol I'm glad you're not a Lawyer.
now that I look again, maybe not even painted by the same artist (one is very muted, soft and hazy style, the other sharper and more focused)
