My deepest sympathies.

Last year, the woman who chose to be my mother passed very suddenly and I too was unable to be beside her side. I understand both the double loss and the sense of limited resolution.

There is no mitigating the pain, nor any peace to be found for some time; that's true. But I can say that I made a series of conscious efforts to seek out someone who was in need, in causes that she believed in, and did things for her that she would have done, had she remained.

It didn't help me to feel better, but it did make her live on in the peace that it gave to those I helped.

She lived on. She still does, every time I find another thing to do that makes a difference.
