Vulcan Shuttle
Sure hope somebody that sees this wants to design a papermodel. Where do you post? Civil Wheels or PASA?
Looks like someone kitbashed: Here is a podcast that tells the story, it is 22-minutes but worth listening too. Very interesting! https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320/...ulcan-shuttle/ How many have seen this car run at a local track? Mike |

haha very cool.
Not the first (real) rocket car I've seen, but its the first rocket powered beetle. (I have seen a jet powered Beetle!) Does look silly...reminds of something out of a Road Runner cartoon. Coyote tries to outrun an out of control rocket in this Beetle, but.... I'm more curious of the name and how that came to be. I don't see the connection, but I assume it relates to Star Trek somehow. I can't listen to the podcast since it is only on iTunes (which I don't have or wish to install) oh wait...theres a link to the podcast (off iTunes): https://dorkomotive.com/podcast/1-11...ulcan-shuttle/

Never heard of that car. Pretty sure NHRA wouldn't let it run at any of their tracks, especially after the Pollution Packer (hydrogen peroxide rocket) crashed. But the southeast had a bunch of IHRA, AHRA and independent tracks that were a lot looser on what could run.

The rocket itself sounds safe, a tie-rod broke, that is what caused the crash. Does not look like it was rebuilt, as it killed the driver. It does mention anybody that has seriously hot rodded a VW Beetle soon run into hi speed aerodynamic issues. They were doing close to 200mph in a 1/4 mile. Have owned several VW's through the years. Started with a 1959 Window Van, 1300cc engine ($350 money paid 1978). Mike |

If its an NHRA sanctioned track, only NHRA inspected and approved vehicles are allowed on the track, race or exhibition. One of the reasons you have AHRA and independent tracks.

Hi Whulsey,
Plan to look up the hydrogen peroxide you mention. Don't blame them for outlawing that style of rocket. Way to volatile. Anything organic coming in contact with 40% hydrogen peroxide goes boom in a fuel delivery system. It dissolves human skin on contact. Read the Rocket Fighter by Mano Zigler to find out more. Get the hard bound version for photos. Best regards, Mike Bauer |
