Electric Unicycle ?

Has anyone seen one of these on the roads in your town/city?

I saw one of these on a main 4-lane highway here. I was going south, and it was going north.
When it first appeared in the distance, I didn’t know what it was. As it got closer, it looked like a guy just standing still, but going very very fast. It flew by me going between 40 and 50 mph. He had a helmet on and a wheel between his feet. When I got home I started searching various phrases on the internet to find out what it was. This image is it. (they can’t be street legal)

Forgive me if this is old stuff to many of you, but when you see one of these for the first time, it really makes an impression.

Mike

There is at least one person who tools around Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA, riding one of these. No helmet and no lights, but also no speeding.

The manufacturers must have made huge improvements in the speed recently. The articles I read about them seem to indicate top speeds of 15-25mph. Those articles must be out of date.

Haven't seen one around where I live yet, but I guess it won't be long before I do.

I've seen something like this being ridden on large empty parking lot.It was pretty fast and very maneuverable.I can't imagine this thing being ridden on any road or sidewalk where I live-har too many holes, cracks and other obstacles that can lead to serious harm.
Much like Segway machines like this need very even surface.

Question

There is another variation I have seen ( but the guy was riding it in the park ). Looks like a small tire with flat in front and in back to place each foot on.

google electric unicycle and you get hundreds of variations and designs.

I don't think any of them are road legal. All appear to ride on sidewalks, off road or parks. But that will not stop some from thinking they are "cars". And you know what's coming next ( "Gee, I did not even see that person in front of me when I hit them....." ).

Anyhow, someone thinks they are indestructible or their adrenaline rush needs a daily boost. But I can see using them slowly on the sidewalk or a park trail.

Not for everyone.

At a certain age, 3 or 4 wheels is what we need.

Seeing him leaning precariously into the wind at that speed was like watching something from the old cartoon show "The Jetsons".
But, yes Isaac, as a bicycle rider, at least 2 wheels for me.

Actually, Karol, some of the ads and reviews for electric unicycles say that they are very suitable for off road use.

See, for example, this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aJ5mFB6gcM Admittedly, this is a well-maintained trail.
