Congratulation on the new job. Living in Brenham should be a bonus. Cost of living might be less than you are accustomed to. Hopefully, your neighbors will be the friendly sort of Texans. There are a few of us papermodelers in the area (within 1-1/2 hrs, or100miles, or so). Get used to measuring distance in hours rather than miles.

I'm old enough to remember when driving distance in Texas was measured in beers.

Up until the 1987, you could legally drink and drive in Texas. Driving while drunk was illegal, but if you wanted to down a six-pack on that two-and-a-half-hour drive from Midland to Alpine, that was perfectly legal. And trust me, that is a boring drive so beer was helpful.

It took the Texas Legislature a long time to connect the dots between drinking while driving and getting drunk while driving.
