1938-2020 Gerard Methorst has left
Greetings.
With sad regret I have to give bad news. The 5th of this month Gerard Methorst set off for a better place. A few months ago Gerard began to suffer pain and weight loss which were increasing. After several medical examinations during the pandemic he discovered a very aggressive cancer that metastasized without hope of relief with some treatment. In this hopeless situation and as Dutch law allows, the euthanasia process was scheduled for the day that indicates because the pain was intense. I have enormous appreciation towards Gerard, a person always very cordial, kind and generous with me. Even in his last days he was kind enough to answer the emails where I asked him about his health. I will miss his emails, where we not only discussed the hobby, but also many other things. A big hug to your family in this difficult time. Thank you very much Ada, your wife for staying in touch even at this time, strength and encouragement Ada. Thank you very much for all Gerard, rest assured, one day we'll see each other, not yet, but that day will come. |

Oh! Man, this is so sad to hear. I too have corresponded with Gerard a lot in the past couple of years and he really was such a kind and lively man with passion for life and a broad interest, always happy to talk to us 'youngsters'.
Gerard was a land surveyor by profession, but always had a big interest in aircraft. He wrote me that when he was young, he would have loved to have become a fighter pilot after he finished school. But he was bad at maths, so that was out of the question. His other passion, drawing, also wasn't really appreciated, his father decided he had to go to technical university (HTS). I really enjoyed corresponding with him about different approaches on paper modeling. Our discussions often had scale and (line)drawing and CAD software as subjects. He helped me a lot when I wanted to recolour his model of the Westland Whirlwind fighter and he designed a new nose for the plane. He only built his own designed models, the only models he made that were designed by others were when he was around 11 years old. Gerard was 81 years old. Clear skies, you magnificent man. Thanks for all the models and your enthusiasm. I will keep you in my thoughts. Goeie reis, ouwe reus. |
