Bookshelf Inserts- Cool!
Naturally, the housing would need to be wood for rigidity, but I could totally see some of these in paper!

Those are pretty neat but I converted all my empty bookshelf space into display cases many years ago because dusting random bits of junk really sucks.

If you are interested in making one but aren't too good at scratchbuilding, the following may help.

I like them, but my shelves are overflowing with actual books (images are of the ground floor den only), so I am disinclined to take up space for other items.
Not to mention the multitudes of unfinished paper models and my regrettable tendency to start new ones without having finished the existing WiPs. . . . But they are very appealing. Don |

The #6 image (and some others below) is from a rip-off kit of the #1 image, lasercut plywood. I don't know if this counts as piracy or not, but I think the value is in the concept. It won't be difficult to come up with your own version of these. They look dull without some lighting added to them, but then for the lighting one has to deal with turning it on and off, rather than having it sit quietly on the bookshelf. I am tempted to design one myself at some point.
On the other topic, the Robotimes series is awesome. There are many Chinese producers of these little diorama kits, theirs are some of the best I have made, in both design and material quality. They get my full recommendation. But Don, your diorama is amazing, it's much more detailed than the one I have made
